Undergraduate Enrollment

General Information

Welcome! Our office handles the undergraduate enrollment for classes in: Biology, Biological Sciences, Botany and Plant Sciences, Cell Biology and Neuroscience, Entomology, Environmental Toxicology, Microbiology, Nematology and Plant Pathology. We assist undergraduate students with enrollment issues for courses listed above (prerequisites, call numbers for research sections, enrollment eligibility, permission codes, etc...).

Please note that all advising questions should be directed toward your Academic Advisor. If you are an undergraduate in CNAS and need to speak with an undergraduate advisor, please contact the CNAS Undergraduate Advising Center.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

I can't enroll through GROWL, what should I do?

First, you should check the following:

  1. Are the call numbers correct?
If yes, then contact us at the link below. If not, then please enter the correct call numbers.
  2. Am I registering for both a lecture and discussion if required?
If yes, then contact us at the link below. If not, then please enter the correct call numbers for both lecture and discussion.
  3. Am I exceeding my maximum number of units?
If yes, you must contact your Academic Advisor. If no, then contact us at the link below.

If none of the above apply or if you are still having difficulty enrolling for a life science course (BIOL, BLSC, BPSC, CBNS, ENTM, ENTX, MCBL, NEM or PLPA) through GROWL, please complete the information at the link below and you will receive an email when your request is complete:

I want to repeat BIOL 5A, 5B, or 5C- How do I enroll?

If you are repeating BIOL 5A, 5B or 5C for the first time, then you must obtain permission by completing an enrollment request form: https://ucrbsgsac.wufoo.com/forms/enrollment-request/ during the enrollment makeup period for All Students.

After first-time students are accommodated, you will receive a response to your request. If space permits, you will be given permission to enroll or waitlist. If you are waitlisted, GROWL will add you to the class as seats become available and send an automatic notification to your UCR Webmail account. Please note that being on the waitlist does not guarantee eventual enrollment in the course.

If you are a student attempting to repeat BIOL 5A, 5B or 5C for a second time or more (third or more time taking) or for duplication of credit you will not be allowed to enroll. Please contact your Academic Advisor (CNAS students may contact the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Advising) or your college with any concerns.

How do I enroll in a class as a Concurrent Student through University Extension?

Enrollment for concurrent students is handled through University Extension. They will provide you with a form which the instructor will need to sign. Please contact the instructor directly for permission to enroll in the course. Our office does not approve these forms. Current UCR students have enrollment priority over concurrent students. Seats are not held for concurrent students and you will not be allowed to add until current students are accommodated, which can be through week 2 of the quarter. If you are a former UCR student, then you will need the approval of your College (CNAS, CHASS, BCOE, or AGSM) after you have obtained approval from the instructor. Please contact the appropriate college office for specific procedures and policies.

I am not a UCR student, but need to verify my prerequisites for a Summer Session class, what do I need to do?

If you are not a UC Riverside student but have taken courses comparable to the listed prerequisites, please submit your transcripts for verification. Submit your transcript, UCR student ID number, and call number for the course(s) either in person (1140A Batchelor Hall) or by email to the appropriate person:

For more information, please visit Summer Enrollment for prerequisites.
